The Town of Sidney is one of the fastest-growing in Maine, as a result of its proximity to Waterville, five miles to the north, and Augusta, four miles south. I-95, with an interchange in Sidney provides primary access. The Kennebec County town is bounded on the east by the Kennebec River, and the west by Messalonskee Lake, covering more than 42 square miles. Despite population tripling over the past 30 years, there is no defined commercial or settlement areas. The town also consists of about 15 percent seasonal housing.
